AcuAsk a question.

Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture should not be a painful experience. A patient might feel a mild pricking sensation and a slight ache at the acupuncture point with needle insertion. Acupuncture is a relaxing experience. Often patients fall into a deep sleep during the treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes acupuncture is extremely safe if performed by a licensed practitioner. For the millions of treatments provided annually the risk of accident or injury is negligible.  Acupuncture needles are all sterile and single use so there is no chance for infection or disease transmission.

How often will I need to be treated?

Acupuncture is best applied with several treatments spaced closely together. Each case is treated individually but a usual course of treatment can be between six to twelve sessions.

How many needles are used?

Each treatment varies but a typical number of needles used per treatment would be 8 to 15.

What should I do after a treatment?

It is recommended to rest after an acupuncture treatment. Avoid strenuous activity and operating machinery if possible.

Are there any side effects?

Occasionally there can be bruising and sometimes soreness, otherwise acupuncture is free of side effects.
