Questions About Acupuncture

Ask a question.

Does it hurt?

No, acupuncture should not hurt you!  Acupuncture is not like getting a shot from the doctor. Acupuncture needles are the diameter of a thick human hair. You might feel a mild pricking sensation and a slight ache at the acupuncture point. You don't have to endure any discomfort. Often, acupuncture is so relaxing a patient will fall into a deep sleep during the treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe if performed by a licensed practitioner. For the millions of treatments provided annually the risk of injury is small. Acupuncture needles are sterile and single use only.

How often will I need to be treated?

Each case is treated individually. Acupuncture is best applied with several treatments spaced closely together. A usual course of treatment can be between three to eight sessions. My goal is to have you feeling better as quickly as possible.

What should I do after a treatment?

I recommend that you rest after an acupuncture treatment. If you must you can go to work or resume your regular routine after a session. Immediately after a treatment its best to avoid strenuous activity and operating heavy machinery.

Are there any side effects?

Occasionally there can be bruising and sometimes soreness, otherwise acupuncture is free of side effects.
