Herbs are used
for all manner of health concerns. The pharmacy of Chinese medicine
includes plant, mineral, and some animal material. Herbs can be
applied topically , cooked in water to make medicinal teas,
extracted in alcohol to make tinctures and formed into pills.
Pills and teas are the most common way of taking herbs.
Today there are many concerns about the safety of herbal medicines. There have
been reports in the media about inappropriate use of commonly available herbs
with dangerous results . A trained herbalist understands the proper usage of
medicinal herbs. At Health Wise Acupuncture herbal formulas are chosen for their
safety and effectiveness. All the herbs used in the Health Wise Acupuncture herbal pharmacy
are checked for purity and are free of adulterants. Herbal medicines are checked to make sure there
will be no interactions with prescription medications. Ask a question. Do the herbs taste bad? It is common that herbal formulations brewed into teas can have bitter qualities. Many patients dislike making and drinking teas. Often the same formulation is available in a pill form that alleviates the problems associated with bitter tastes. How long do I have to take the herbs? Every condition is unique so that is a difficult question to answer. Sometimes a patient will take an herbal for a very short time, for instance when the herbs are used to combat a cold. On the other hand more complex and chronic cases may call for a course of treatment that has a patient taking herbs for several months. Are herbs expensive? Herbs can be a very cost effective way of treating a health concern. Certainly herbs are far less expensive than many prescription medications. Do you use endangered species? Health Wise Acupuncture avoids the use of endangered species and encourages other practitioners to do the same. |
