Acupuncture was broadly introduced to the United States in the 1970's when President Nixon initiated relations with China. The news was filled with the story of James Reston a reporter for the New York Times who had an appendectomy with only acupuncture for anesthesia. Mr. Reston's pain was completely controlled with acupuncture. Since that time acupuncture and Chinese medicine have become a widely used medical alternative. In 1997 the National Institute of Health issued a Consensus Statement recognizing that "acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention is widely practiced in the United States" and "may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative or be included in a comprehensive management program."

Chinese medicine is holistic medical system.  Each one of us manifest our health uniquely, in illness or health.  Chinese medicine recognizes that a practitioner must understand a patient's complete expression of their health.  When the whole person is treated in the context of the health concern then the best outcome can be obtained.

Acupuncture is the most commonly recognized procedure utilized in Chinese medicine. Millions of acupuncture treatments are performed annually around the globe.
